This little family is expecting an addition any minute now. But in the meantime Georgia wanted to chronicle a little bit about their life before their newest little one joined them. Our session coincided with another special occurrence, the blooming of the Japanese cherry blossoms in Lake Balboa.
A few years ago I traveled to Washington D.C. a hair too early to witness the annual cherry blossom festival, so it was a joy to see this heady burst of blossoms all over the lake. We had a good time tromping around enjoying the ducks (though I don't think the ducks enjoyed it as much) and the scenery.
I love little Joshua's cheerful expression sitting on the toy car.
We were trying to get Joshua to run towards the ducks, but this collected little tyke was content to admire from afar.
These are the baby's new shoes, a little large now, but he'll grow into them soon.
Though they sort of laughed at me, I think it's always good to remember the time when your kid was small enough that he could easily pass through your legs and show up triumphantly on the other side.

This landmark event for this (almost) toddler was probably one of the best first year birthday parties I have ever been to. The recipe for this success? You need to add one smart little outfit, some tasty cupcakes shaped into a cute little caterpillar, a playground with plenty of places to crawl, slide, and play, and a fun, festive, gathering of friends and family to celebrate with.
I had the privilege of photographing Isaac starting from three months of age when they took a chance on this (then) newbie photographer, and it has been quite a joy watching this family grow together. A few oldies but goodies - Isaac at three months and six months:
And now he's one!
It was also amazing to meet their wonderful family and friends, and be able to capture sweet little moments from the stuffed animal birthday present that was a huge hit with Isaac to pictures of Isaac enjoying his birthday cake (as evidenced by his face).
Here are just a few of the pictures from that day.

How adorable!!

Marriages, new jobs, and new family members tend to spread families quite a bit. This fun, busy family is no exception. So it was really nice when we were able to get a few of the family together for a photoshoot at Cal Lutheran university, where the parents first met.
Photographing people always tells you a little bit about their personality. Whereas most family members gravitated towards grass, trees, and other bits of pretty scenery, what piques quirky Krissy's interest? Garbage, concrete, and dumpsters. :) All in all it was a very fun, entertaining shoot, as it always is with the growing Kwan family.

I photographed this cute little family several months ago back when their little bundle of joy was still inside the belly. Since then, their baby girl made her debut and we had a chance to do a fun little session to chronicle her six months of life.
Babies have such adorable gear. With socks like these, who needs shoes?
We headed over to a nearby airfield to watch some model planes fly.
Bobby and Karen told me that their baby came with a one and a half hour battery pack, and they weren't joking. Right after our session, this exhausted little baby fell asleep in her car seat, providing what will hopefully be a smooth ride home.

In honor of James' (almost ) one year of life, I took pictures of their cute little family of four at their house. Here are a few highlights:
A family picture gone humorously awry with James attempting to kiss Lucy in the face.
Doesn't this remind you of "Where the Wild Things Are"?
Afterward, Megan took us to this spot near their house where she had pictures taken when she was pregnant with James.
Early Happy Birthday! :)
