It was a beautiful day in Playa del Carmen when Jen & Dave spoke their vows in front of forty of their closest friends and family.  There was a lot of love, a lot of laughter, and even a few tears.

I knew even from their engagement that Jen & Dave are a special couple, so it was no surprise that the rest of their friends and family was equally fun.  They made everything easy. :)

It was a gorgeous day for their event.

After the ceremony, the whole wedding group walked behind the Mariachi band as they paraded around the street.  Kudos to the talented team of Two Penny Productions for keeping up with the crowd with all their equipment. :)

The wedding group partied it up for the rest of the night at the Blue Parrot

Did I mention that their whole group is incredibly musically talented?  There were a lot of performances that night, including a very sweet surprise song performed by Dave for Jen.

At the end of the night there was a fire dance, which was amazing!  Kelly and I were transfixed.

We had a great time in Playa del Carmen, and were so honored to be able to capture their beautiful wedding day.  Congrats Jen and Dave!

See their slideshow here .  Enjoy!

These are fantastic! Looks like it was an amazing wedding! Glad you had a good time on top of it. I'd love to see the rest of them, and the post production is fantastic. My favorites are the bride and groom goofing off and the guitar and speaker/vocalist. They're all wonderful.

Every year, in the wee hours of the morning, little fish flock southern California beaches to spawn in what is known as the Grunion run.  My first (and until recently, only) experience was spent shivering on the beach at night scouring the beaches with a flashlight, only to walk away sleepy and tired with an empty bucket.

This time around I still ended up with an empty bucket, but that was because we gave up our catch to a family.  We hit a relatively desolate stretch of beach about ten minutes before midnight, and waited, finally following the birds to the end of the beach where our flashlights revealed lightning quick flashes of silver.  Many of them are ridiculously quick, I can't tell you how often I attempted to chase one down only to be smacked by a cold Pacific ocean wave for my troubles.  They are also small and squirmy, and I was very leery of squishing them.

The videos below are courtesy of Vivian's camera, starring Ricky (with commentary by Vivian) and the Grunions. :)

Here's a video with the males fertilizing the eggs and the female laying the eggs vertically in the sand:

This is awesome! Have you seen Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead? There is a scene where Christina Applegate and her man have their first date watching the Grunion run. I had completely forgotten about it until now!

Ricky Kotani:

I'm a little skeptical of doing that again also...
but then it was large amounts of fun, and if anything, always good times.

I'm glad we decided not to take them home.

Grunions = fun. Glad it was a success! It's amazing how they return (in the same abundance) every year!

This past week was frenetic as I undertook the laborious task of transferring files and revamping my website.  And other than some color identity issues (don't be too surprised when the website occasionally changes colors), I love the result. :)  But that also meant that I bid adieu to my faithful old blog.

Pros of a new blog:  Bigger pictures! :D

Cons of a new blog:  Goodbye old comments...

And because no post is complete without some pictures, this past Saturday I went to Forth Mag's carnival  at the Santa Monica Pier.  Forth Magazine is a new arts magazine that's hit the west LA scene.    Two of my pictures were published in the very first issue, which was really exciting. :)

That daring young man on the flying trapeze."
