Several weeks ago I spent a few days in Half Moon Bay, which was a relief from the rash of hot weather we'd been experiencing in Los Angeles. We were at the Ritz Carlton for a very worthwhile benefit, but it was also a good time to just get away a little. I love that Half Moon Bay seems perpetually shrouded in fog. I hopped on a bike for the first time in seven years, and after a slightly wobbly start we managed to bike all the way down several beaches and back. But I think I spent most of my time just curled up in an Adirondack chair watching the waves during the day and the glow of the fire pits at night.
Phoebe, thank you so much for capturing us so authentically. This shoot was so fun and we absolutely cherish these photos. YOU ARE AMAZING. XO Somer

I really love these phoebe! ciao~
(06.07.11)Nathan and Katharine love the outdoors. And with the lovely California weather, it's
not surprising that these two have practically hiked all over southern
California and beyond. So it was fitting
that their engagement session was out on the trail.
They're actually looking at a map of the Grand Tetons, where
Nathan proposed to Katharine (and managed to sneakily film it himself).
And a little light painting to end the day...
In 2007, in my pre-SLR days, a few friends, Tony, and I joined a few travelers from the U.K. in the back of a rattling van that wound its way slowly through a tiny mountain pass in Norway. We were on our way to Nigardsbreen, a tiny arm of Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier in Europe. The road was sometimes so narrow that two cars couldn't pass through it, so oncoming traffic had to hug the side and wait for the other car to pass.
When we arrived it was a little surreal. A boat docked at one end of the glacier-fed lake ferried us across, and Nigardsbreen, that seemingly tiny finger of the Jostedal Glacier, loomed over us, larger than life.
Being
southern California bred, I wore practically all my clothes for this one,
because despite the tiny glint of sunlight, it was cold. Our host wore "knickers" (which looked sort of
like capri pants to me), and seemed impervious to the temperature. The two photos of us below were taken by my
friend Shu Ping. We fancied that we
looked sort of like an REI ad (or maybe the Village people).
We
drank the fresh water from one of the streams and on our hike back we got a
little lost and encountered some errant sheep (pictured above) that followed us partway back. After climbing a few hills (crossing private
property, no doubt) and meeting a few puzzled locals, we made it down just in
time to meet our host, buy blueberries from a local farm, and return home.
Huy told me that Liz loves flowers. So it was doubly a pleasure seeing spring in
full and gorgeous bloom on the day of their engagement shoot. We headed down to San Juan Capistrano, where
Huy and Liz proceeded to show me that all I really needed to do was point and
shoot. They are absolutely the perfect
mix of sugar and spice.
We met the friendliest cat, who apparently wanted to be in the picture as well.
I, however, do not believe for one minute that Huy really
knows how to juggle. I don't think that
Liz believes it either.
Huy and Liz, it was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to shooting your wedding this summer. :)
Love the pictures! I wish I was better looking, but I'll take the good-looking fiancee. You know what I'ma sayin'?!

Are you shooting with a 5D? What type of lenses are you using?
I first "met" the lovely Rachel from That's Chic while
shopping online, first as a featured blogger on Modcloth and later on on Coach
as part of their holiday campaign. I
love that she and a hearty collection of fashionable bloggers (like
Sartorialist and Glamourai just to name a few) constantly force you to rethink your notions on style. Here are a few pics from a very quick session with her.
Wonderful series of Rachel here! Just checked out her blog - she's got such a great style!
(04.24.11)Awesome photos!! My faves are Scrabble ring picture and the last one. Wow :)
(04.09.11)What a LOVELY couple!!
(04.11.11)In anticipation of summer (yes, I know we still have to go
through spring first), here are a few pictures as a reminder that though it's
not quite summer here, it certainly is summer somewhere in the world. I never got to upload these photos, but they
were taken almost exactly year ago during Jen and Dave's wedding in gorgeous
Playa del Carmen. What is one advantage
of having a destination wedding? You can
take all your wedding guests snorkeling with you on a private catamaran a few
days before the wedding.
Romantic couple with their kids . Looks very awesome .
(04.20.16)Happy family photography . Thanks a lot for sharing such family photography .
