We caught the tiniest last bit of apple season this year at Oak Glen's apple butter festival. Warm sunshine, bright leaves, and sounds of bluegrass made this corner of California feel like a completely different place.
I remember picking apples here as a child, we even had a magnet on our wall as a reminder of our adventures. But this time a wagon ride behind a pair of Belgian drafthorses was a pleasant way of experiencing Los Rios' apple orchards.
Just about the best apple pie a la mode I ever had. I kid you not. Warm and flaky with a generous helping of vanilla ice cream...

I love this set! Wished I had gone there to taste the pie, even though it was sort of a long drive. But boy, that pie sounds and looks delicious!
