My Portland entry will have to wait a little, as I wanted to upload a few pics from Paul & Lan's engagement before I went MIA for a week.

Paul and Lan are adorable, goofy people, and it was so fun to hang out with them.  We were definitely racing a bit with the sun, which set a lot more quickly than any of us expected.  But I think it was also because we got a little caught up in chatting as well. :)  Even California summers can't last forever (though it certainly feels like this heat can!).

Lan is the only person I know who suggested jumping while in heels (no easy task).  :)

Dance moves!

Paul and Lan were definite troopers for hiking out as far as they did.  I had them climb up a fairly steep fire trail.  Engagement & workout session. :)

But all too soon the sun vanished behind the horizon, and all these gorgeous colors came out.

I just counted how many smiley faces I put in this entry.  Definitely a lot more than usual, but it was a lot of fun.  I'm looking forward to their engagement session part deux! :)

E&P1.jpg

I met Evelyn and Phillip on a lovely Sunday afternoon to do their engagement shoot.  Evelyn and Phillip are one of those envious couples who have their wedding act together, and I am in complete awe at how they've managed to whip their wedding into shape.  I think they deserve an award, and that will be that they will probably not go to their honeymoon all exhausted like many other couples (including yours truly).

Here are a few pics from their session.

You wouldn't be able to tell from most of their engagement pics, but most of the time they looked like this (below).  They were constantly laughing and teasing each other, and brought a lot of energy to their shoot.  I thoughtlessly chimed into a few of their more private conversations with some inane comment or the other (I am known to do that from time to time, sorry guys!).  But they were pretty nice about it. I am always full of opinions, even when I'm busy shooting. :)

Afterwards we headed down to the beach for the quintessential California engagement shoot.  The light was lovely, and by that time they were pros at ignoring me while I photographed them. :)

This last shot they decided on their own.  Way to take the "plunge," guys!  Pacific ocean water, even on a summer evening, isn't always the warmest.

All in all they were a fun, sweet couple, and I had a great time with them.  I am excited to shoot their wedding next year.  Time to test out my seaworthiness. :)

We met up with Jen and Gustavo on a very sunny Saturday at the Getty Center. We had a good time wandering around the Getty. They had never been there before so they brought family and made it into a family outing. Here are a few favorites:

I love the rebar flower sculptures in the garden area of the Getty.

Gustavo can twirl Jen like it's nobody's business.

Jen is one of those fortunate people who is able to smile with her eyes. I am properly envious. :)

This shot was taken right before I realized it was a sculpture, and there was a (very small) "do not touch" sign on the building wall next to it. Oops.

Everytime I turn around to look for them, they are holding hands. It's very cute, so I couldn't resist snapping a shot when they were walking away.

It's surprising how much you can read from a photograph that only captures a quarter of your body. Plus I couldn't resist taking a picture of Jen's shoes.

I can't wait to shoot their wedding. I can't believe it's only two weeks away!

It's always fun to take pictures of friends. Better still when they pick the happiest place on earth, at least.. the outskirts, a.k.a. downtown Disney. Something I already knew about them before we took pictures: They are cute and quirky, which is clearly evident in their picture choices. =) Something I learned after: They have mad hops! We shot pics for their table numbers as a fun way to personalize their wedding. An example of one:

And some other shots sans canvas:

I think Jessie's expression was pretty funny when Elton jumped with the "running man" pose.

And of course, if we get to play with big letters, we must give a shout out to our alma mater. Go bears!

This one was Elton's idea. Lol, cute. Just in case it wasn't clear enough, package = Jessie. :)

I do have to admit that I mildly dubious when we drove out to Walnut to meet up with Brenda and Chris for their engagement session. My southern California experiences have always been limited to the coast, I only head inland for food. But Chris and Brenda definitely know their stuff when it comes to photography, and we found a lot of great places to shoot at. Of course the inkling that clued me in was when they had brought their own cameras along for the ride, far more updated than my own beloved hunk of plastic. Talk about intimidating.

My friend Ricky warned me that I would have an extremely tough time getting Brenda not to smile on camera, but she can definitely work it when she wants to. =) Props to them for clambering out onto train tracks for a photo op.

Then the train REALLY came. This was a mildy terrifying shot, you could feel the ground shake when the train rolled by, but Brenda and Chris stuck their ground. I might've run away if I had been as close as they were.

Chris and Brenda are a very cute couple. Brenda has a really infectious smile, which made our session really fun. Having Ricky crack jokes and take random pictures was pretty entertaining, too.

We went to go eat after our session. No trip to Walnut is ever complete without a trip for food and milk tea. I like west LA but it is a Chinese food wasteland. You always have to travel elsewhere for the really good stuff.
